Biography: Deacon Joseph “Joe” Banks, 88, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2021. He was born, Sunday, January 15, 1933 to U.L. Banks, Sr., and Mary Caldwell Banks, in Rosharon, Texas. At a young age Joe made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of the Blue Run Baptist Church family, there he served as a faithful member and deacon, until his health failed. Joe grew up and attended school in the Rosharon Community. In October 1975, he married Hattie, whom he affectionately called (Hattie V). He was employed by the Red Barn Company for many years, W.R. Grace brought out Red Barn, and he remained a dutiful employee for many years. Later in life he became employed for ICS, and 1994 retired. He then found a passion for mowing lawns, watching westerns, and attending weekly Men’s Bible Study at various churches, which included: Church of God and Prophecy, Blue Run Baptist Church, True Honor Baptist Church, Burrell Chapel Baptist Church and St. Paul AME Church. He was preceded in death by his parents: U.L. Banks, Sr., and Mary Caldwell Banks; his sisters: Sylvia Foster, Annie Bell Tutman, Viola Grice, Lucy Perkins, Mary Watkins, and Pauline Butler; his brothers: U.L. Banks, Jr., Peter Banks, Willie Banks, James Banks, Bennie Banks, Frank Banks, and Lewis Banks; his god son Beaujorn A. Randon. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Hattie Banks, of Angleton; his son Howard Mucker, of Rosharon, his step-children, Eugene Mucker, of Houston, Lily Jackson (Phillip-deceased) of Rosharon, Cabrienna Gardner (Edwin) of Angleton, Mesharer Wheatley (Michael) of Killeen, Pamela Rubin, Roderick Davis and Velma Davis all of Houston. Three god-daughters, Audrey Lynn Grear-Alexander (Glen) of Angleton, Ashley Nandhal, and Sarina Holmes both of Houston. Two grandchildren; Courtney Mucker and Tammy Mucker of California; three great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; a host of step grand and great grandchildren; his brothers, Minister Herman Banks (Jean) of Richmond, and Rubin Banks of Houston; and his sister-in-law; Herlene Banks. Special friends; Pastor E.F. Gooden, Minister Clarence Wade, Minister Patrick Hall, Bishop Hugh McGruder, Bro. Alphonso Johnson, and Bro. Ernest Sorrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. There will be a visitation in honor of Deacon Banks on Friday, August 13, 2021, 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gardner’s Funeral Home, 507 West Orange St., Angleton, Texas, followed by A Celebration of his Life at 12:00 PM at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Lester Miller, Officiating, and Reverend E.F. Gooden, Eulogist. Interment will follow at will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Brazoria TX. Due to the COVID-19, everyone is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
