Biography: Leona “Tookie” Jackson, 73, of Bailey’s Prairie, Texas, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, surrounded by her family. Tookie was born on June 11, 1947, in Angleton, Texas, to Leon “Bo Diddly” and Dorothy “Muh” Sasser. She was raised by her maternal grandmother F.E. Henderson in Bailey’s Prairie, Texas and attended Marshall High School. She confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Bailey’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, were she remained a loyal and faithful servant. On June 11, 1970, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie “Tommie” Jackson. Throughout her life, Tookie wore many hats serving on the Executive Board and other committees at the Brazoria County Fair for over a decade, educating and mentoring the youth as the Leader of Bailey’s Prairie 4-H Club for over 20 years. Although she may have been small in size, Tookie had a love for cooking and baking. Everyone at the fairgrounds knew that if they bought a Bailey’s Prairie 4-H animal at the auction, they were going home with her FAMOUS Pecan Pie! We celebrate the life, the love and the legacy of a phenomenal woman who was known for her smile, loving heart, and compassion to help those near and dear to her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Dorothy Sasser; Grandmothers F.E. Henderson and Mahalia Moon; a sister, Betty Shanklin; a niece, Arika Sasser; and numerous aunts and uncles. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Willie “Tommie” Jackson; two daughters, Glynis ”Ann” Jackson (Johnathan Apanisile) and Ashanti Jackson; two granddaughters, Tasha Jackson and Darronshae Boniaby; two great-granddaughter, Amyrie Conley and Kentley Edwards; five great-grandsons, A’Marion Conley, Ashton Lemon, Zaylynn Walters, Zyhir Walters, and Zyhon Walters; Two Sisters, Lois White (Robert) and Joycelyn Bess; one brother: Leon “Sonnyboy” Sasser (Kathy); and godchildren; Leona “Koley” Sasser (Sophia), Christopher White II (AshLee), Tristen Wooten, and Trinity Sasser; very dear friends Ina Faye Robinson and Evelyn Granville, and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jackson and Carolyn Lewis. Pallbearers, Christopher White II, Tristen Wooten, Frank Reddick, Matthew Spears, Marvin Hall, and Leona “Koley” Sasser. Visitation for Tookie will be held Thursday, October 29, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gardner’s Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM, at Bible Way Outreach Church, 201 Miller St., Angleton, Texas, Reverend Alonzo Brown, Church Pastor, and Reverend Mark Bree, Officiant/Eulogist.
